![]() Saturday, May 8, 2010: Calling all gardeners, new and expert! Looking for hard-to-find plants? Seeking quality stalwarts that will launch a new garden successfully? Searching for “just the right” plant to fit that garden trouble spot? The annual Spring Festival & Plant Sale at UBC Botanical Garden has what you are looking for. CLICK HERE FOR A 2009 PLANT LIST! (2010 Plant List Available May 1, 2010) Seven to eight thousand plants are grown exclusively in The Botanical Garden – plants are donated by FOG members, nurseries and other friends of the garden. Perennial plants and Native plants are selected and nurtured in Totem Field, the Back 40 and the UBC nursery, then taken to the plant yard and potted for the PPS. Preparing the plants for the PPS is a year long project and essentially starts again once the sale is completed. The sale takes place on the Saturday of Mother's Day weekend with the day before busy with the set up of tables, transport of plants from the plant yard . . . rain or shine. Strolling Barber Shop singers will entertain you and great snacks and coffee will be available to sustain your energy levels! The Sale now features a wide selection of edible plants, blueberry, strawberry and raspberry plants, heritage tomatoes and herbs. There will be presentations on environmentally friendly ways to deal with weeds and pests; and other topics of interest. There will also be suggestions on what to plant in your shady or sunny areas; and a special section "The Can-Do Garden" to help with gardening in the tiniest space or on a deck or balcony. Activities: There is a children’s area offering free gift plant, face painting and other activities; a free holding area; free admission to garden; and horticultural experts to help with your queries. lt;/span> |
